    Hakim Proposed to Provia

On Saturday I photographed Hakim proposing to Provia at the Royal Palms Resort. He had planned to ask her after they had dinner at T Cook's and the Eric at the Royal Palms helped by having a wonderful dessert by candlelight setup at one of the cabana's by the pool.

Provia was so surprised as you can tell.

The great desserts they had waiting for them.

Then I popped out from hiding for a photo to capture the occasion formally.

Congratulations on your engagement Hakim and Provia!

Wedding Chronicle - Best of 2007

I totally forgot to mention that the Wedding Chronicle featured Jennifer and Dominic's wedding in their Best of 2007 issue. I was excited to hear that they wanted to feature it in this issue. We also have another wedding that will be featured in their next March/April issue.

    What are the Digital Negatives?

For those of you wondering what Digital Negatives are, here is a photo of our packaging from a recent session. The digital negatives are a disc containing the digital files that we use to print from. We no longer shoot film so instead of film negatives we offer digital copies. Our digital negatives consist of our final proof images and a typed release allowing you to print from these files in the future.

So you may ask, why should we still order prints from your online services?
While you may have purchased the digital negatives, they are only at the proof stage at this point. When a print is ordered then it is custom printed with adjustments made to the color, saturation, density, contrast as well as parts of the image being dodged and burned to bring focus to the image. None of these adjustments will be made if you order a standard print using the digital negatives.

We definitely suggest ordering large gallery prints through our online store so that we can ensure the quality of the image before it is printed and to get the best out of the photo. We want our work to shine and we can only guarantee that if you order your prints through us.

How do we order custom prints?
If you are ordering smaller prints (4x6 - 11x14) from a wedding or portrait, please use our Pictage.com online store by visiting our Proofs page.
For large Gallery Prints or Canvas Prints (16x20 - 30x40) please order your print through our new Online Store.

Veronica + Stephen Engagement Session in Newport Beach, CA

Veronica and Stephen get a ton of points for being fearless in February. They wanted to get some great ocean photos while we were out here in California for their engagement session and so they got into the freezing cold water for the last part of our session. Here are a few of the photos from that evening.

Don't they just look like models

There are more great photos from earlier in the day that I'll post later.

    Anybody Get Motion Sick?

Regis didn't look like he was feeling so well when we hopped on the roller coaster today.

So then he decided that to jump off of the ride and find his own way home. Happy sailing to you!

Actually, we roamed through the Apple store at the South Coast Plaza while we waited for his brakes to be replaced.

Top Ten Reason's to Have a Destination Wedding

Destination I Do Magazine just published a great list of why destination weddings are great. The most important reason that I would choose a destination wedding is #7.  I believe it helps family and friends connect better when it is a multiple day event and no one has to worry about hosting events for everyone.  Everybody can just have a wonderful time.

    1. The Combo Burrito - Having a destination wedding can combine a family reunion, romantic travel and your big event all in one, which makes it something special for everyone involved. Weddings away allow for all your guests to benefit from your decision.

    2. Keep the Guest List to a Dull Roar - Inviting every acquaintance you know can really add up when considering a hometown wedding. Many people feel obligated to invite every Tom, Dick and Harry. The result many times, is an exhausted couple who can barely remember talking to their best friends because they had to make endless "rounds" to see everyone. Destination weddings help to keep your guest list in check. Due to monetary reasons or time constraints, a destination wedding may not be a feasible option for everyone you know. Those acquaintances (mom’s knitting buddies or the girl from cubicle six) most likely won’t make the trip ensuring that your wedding ceremony is witnessed only by those who truly mean the most to you.

    3. Your Dream Wedding at Your Dream Price - A destination wedding can prove to be more cost effective since the guest list is smaller. Sure, you can choose to break the bank even on 50 guests, but when the numbers decrease on the guest list, your budget will shrink too. Additionally, many hotels and travel options offer packages or reduced rates for special event groups.

    4. Control Freak, NOT! – Too many times brides find themselves losing sleep over how many roses will be in their bouquet or if the minister will pronounce their names correctly. Yes, weddings can create anxiety, but when you decide to have a destination wedding, you are likely going to relinquish most of the control to the professionals you’ve hired. Therefore, when W-Day comes, you’ll be thinking more about the important things – spending time with your friends, loved ones and new spouse rather than the little details no one else will even notice.

    5. Minimize the Family Feud - The opportunity to get married some place different sets up an equal playing ground between families. This way there will be no hard feelings about setting the wedding in one family's hometown or another. If the destination is something new for both families, it will become a place special to them as well as to you.

    6. Boys Dig It – Time and time again, we hear that the groom is getting more involved in the planning – but this is usually only the case with a destination wedding. Grooms get excited about travel, about the destination and the things to do there. They will help in getting the smaller events organized such as golf outings or kayaking tours. They feel they have more to bring to the table with wedding getaways. With hometown weddings they feel like fish out of water. What fun is it for them to pick out aisle runners and the color almonds that will go on the table? Destination weddings allow for grooms to participate in things they otherwise wouldn’t get to plan.

    7. The Ice Breaker - With you and all of your guests spending time in such close proximity and away from home, it creates a much more intimate setting. It gives you plenty of quality time with loved ones, and most importantly the opportunity for the most important people in your newly joined family to bond and really get to know each other.

    8. The Weekend Getaway – Because weddings away from home require the couple and guests to travel, they will spend more time in the destination than they would at a hometown wedding. A hometown wedding only allows the couple 4-6 hours of time with their loved ones (and that’s being generous because much of that time gets eaten up by picture taking and traditional things like dances and the bouquet toss). If you have your wedding in another place, you will likely end up spending more along the lines of a few days with your family and friends rather than just a few hours.

    9. Leave Home, Must Travel - Since so many families are spread out all around the world, most guests are required to travel to attend the wedding anyway. It could be logistically easier to select a destination that could serve as a midpoint or a place with more available accommodations that is potentially easier to get to than where you currently live.

    10. Break The Wedding Mold - A wedding away from home allows for more creativity with venues, cuisine, activities and attire. You can even opt to adopt some local wedding traditions of the destination to make
    the event even more unique.

The Day of Proposals, Part Two

Tonight Scott proposed to Jennifer at the Royal Palms Resort. He planned to have a special cabana setup with candles and champagne.

Scott was waiting for a group of family and friends to show up. As soon as they did, he dropped down to his knee and began to propose with family and friends around. Jennifer was so surprised.

There was plenty of champagne to celebrate with.

    Hurray! She said YES!

All of the family and friends who arrived to celebrate with the happy couple.

The Day of Proposals, Part One

Today I have the pleasure of photographing two proposals. This morning Kyle surprised Shannon at work. Although Shannon unknowingly gave Kyle the run-around by not showing up where he was hoping she would be. He finally met her at one of the bridges at the Phoenician Resort where both of them work.

Kyle had also planned for Shannon's parents and a bunch of their co-workers to join them in celebrating at a nearby cabana.

Showing off the ring and still very surprised.

    The newly engaged couple!

I have another engagement that I'll be photographing tonight so expect to see Part Two later on this evening or tomorrow.

    Ethan Proposes to Jacqueline

This morning I photographed Ethan proposing to Jacqueline at the Royal Palms Resort. Ethan had received one of my proposal cards from the resort and we planned it so that I could hide away and secretly photograph it. Jacqueline had no idea that I was going to hand deliver a framed photograph of this special time while they had breakfast.

This is the photo that I delivered to them. I love being able to capture these moments.

    The Watsons

We all woke up today to a wintry -8 degrees this morning here in Flagstaff, Arizona. So after it finally raised beyond 20 degrees we headed to the back yard for some family photos.

Here is the whole Watson family.
(L-R) Todd, Kiefer, Elisa, and the newest addition Cooper.

Kiefer enjoyed playing in the snowy backyard.

And it was even better when dad made it snow!

    Elisa and Cooper

Kiefer and dad making it snow.

It was a fun morning at the Watson household.

All of these photos taken with a handy-dandy Canon Rebel XT.

I head back down to the Phoenix valley tomorrow which will be crazy with the Super Bowl and the FBR Open both going on.
